Home and Garden

You might not know this, but I have a black thumb. I have killed about 10 plants to date. Three cacti, a pansy, and quite a few attempts at various herbs. None the less, Justin and I persist in trying to do things like have a little greenery in our home, wistfully imagine planting things we could eat, and trying to come up with plants that the deer and our cat won’t eat. We also love to do things like go to Farmer’s Markets, try new restaurants and foods, and attempt to do home decorating in our little apartment. This is a page about those things.

This is our newest attempt at an indoor plant, and one I am positive the cat will not try to eat (unlike the pansies), albeit being unsure as to my ability to keep it alive.

Don’t feel bad. I’m a newlywed and I killed all our plants too. My husband installed a water softener – it never occurred to me to discontinue watering the plants as usual (salt water + plants = not a good combination!)

Dude some of my students gave my plants for my room and they even bought me those water bulb things so they wouldn’t die because I forgot to water them and they STILL died! I even tried putting them on the rood on weekends so they could get non-flourescent light… to no avail. :’(

Haha. I don’t know why it’s so difficult, I had always thought gardening was easy before I actually tried it, but I definitely sympathize with you. Justin and I are having luck with most of our plants these days, all of which we are keeping on our patio. The trick we have discovered so far is to water them only a couple times a week, but to water a LOT. I think a lot of plants just don’t do well in pots.
